Air-drying flowers browns them. Microwaving them cooks them. Silica desiccant pulls moisture out slowly enough that pigment stays in the cell walls, and a screw press keeps the petal flat while it happens.
This is the exact system our memory-preservation studio runs on. Six ply-and-blotter layers, 400g of reusable indicating silica that turns pink when it's spent, and a bake tray so you can dry it back to blue and use it again.
